i am about to buy a second-hand car, but have read previous post about getting HPI done before I buy it, so I will make sure i get that done on Tue.
i went to see the car yesterday, the guy selling it claims to be a trader/dealer, but i was a bit surprised to go there and see the car parked at the back of a car wash place. no other cars there...
Car looks in good condition, it supposedly had one previous owner, and I've checked the fsh which were all done by bmw, so all looks in order.
Hubby says he doesnt have a good feeling about the car though
Is it worth me paying £150+ to get the AA to do a full check on the car for peace of mind?

Go with your Hubby's instinct, find another one.
The surroundings seem very dodgy to me.
Did you ask to see the car documents? ( other than the service history).
I would be looking elsewhere.0 -
if the claims to be a trader, he should be selling the cars from a business address. Start asking questions as to why he is selling from the back of a car wash and not from the address where the business is registered. If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0

There's a lot of pitfalls to avoid. Lets suppose the HPI is clear and the AA say its OK who's to say its not stolen?
It may have been stolen but not reported stolen yet because the owner is on holiday.
Its that vulnerability of probably not being able to find the 'seller' at a later date if something should go wrong.
If hubby senses a problem best avoided imo.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

I've not had a proper look at the doc's except the service history, wasn't sure what exactly to check for to be honest, but he had all the documents
How can if find out if he's a real trader? i think I should probably ask him why he's selling from the back of a car-wash as suggested!
hubby is being careful, I'm being greedy because its the only car I've found that i really like** i didn't lose my mind, i sold it on ebay **0 -
if its what your after at a realistic price then yes id have the AA check to settle your mind
it doesnt nessesarily mean he's a crook because he works from behind a carwash (maybe he runs the carwash too?) and remember theres plenty of people been stitched up at fancy garages too0
