Additional BT line without having details of current line?

Hi all!
I am living in a rented room, which has a BT phone line and broadband shared among 4 people. The BT line is in the name of the agency who rents the house to me.
I want to get my own dedicated phone line and broadband. Is it possible for me to get 2 BT phone lines in the same house? When I click on "Get an additional line" on the BT site it asks me for my current phone number and account number? I do not have details of the account number etc as my agency does not give them out.
Can I get a completely new line from BT registered in my name? Or would there be issues due to already having a BT line in my house registered in someone elses name (the agency)?
Help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Greg

The 'get an additional line' link doesn't apply to you as you don't have a line at all, at least not in your own name. You don't need to know the account number as it's not your account.
I don't see why BT would have any problem with installing a line in your own name, as long as you pass the credit check. When you order, make sure you make clear that it's a new line and that you don't wish to take over the existing one. I'd speak to your landlord first, as they might not want holes being drilled in walls to install a new line.
Do you really need a line in your own name? Isn't the shared broadband sufficient? You could always look into the possibility of a VOIP solution if you want your own phone number.0 -
Thanks for your help!
I think having an additional line would help me switch to a faster broadband provider (I cant switch currently as the agency I rent the room from manages the internet as well). Plus my company pays me for home internet so I dont really mind getting a new line.
I will speak to BT, hopefully there is no limitation on having 2 lines under 2 different names in the same house.

Many multi tenancy/share houses have more then one BT line in,so you should not have a problem.
You dont even have to ask BT to fit it. Their are a number of other suppliers.0
