in Credit cards
 On Sunday 24th August 2008 i went onto use Ryanairs website to book 2 x Adults to Bournemouth Airport flying from Glasgow Prestwick International, when i got to the payment page i used my Visa Electron card as i knew that this would save me £16 on Credit Card fees.
As the money was transferred on the same date to this Visa Electron card the payment was declined by Ryanair and i therefore was given the option to “Try Again” which i did.
This had taken me back to the previous page i was on and i decided to try the Visa Debit option which also said it was £40 in total.
I scrolled up and down the page to confirm that the total amount was £40 and indeed it was saying: Payment Amount £40 i therefore clicked on Purchase and was instantly sent an email from Ryanair with my Travel itinerary which said the total cost was as follows:
PAYMENT DETAILS
********40.00 GBP Total Fare
*********0.00 GBP Taxes, Fees & Charges
********16.00 GBP Passenger Fee: Debit Card Fee
********56.00 GBP Total Paid
I was horrified that after clearly reading on the Ryanairs payment page: Payment Amount was £40 i was charged £56 i therefore believe this to be totally unfair and believe it may be a fault with there webpage as it only said £40 if your first payment method was declined.
I have now decided to make a video recording of how this happens should i need it in a court case as i guess i will struggle to get the £16 back from them.
So basically if you use An electron card it won’t add on any charges but if it gets declined it takes you back to the last page and if you select a new card it does not add up the Credit/Debit charge and still says the Payment Amount As the same, so when i clicked purchase it said the Payment amount was $40 then i got an email saying i was charged £56.

I have just tried it - it shows the correct amount for me.
It also clearly states (twice) what the fees are for using a normal debit card.Gone ... or have I?0 -
But ADAMS you don't have an ELECTRON card do you ? You used your VISA Connect card didn't you !
IF you/re going to write two threads at least get the facts to match. On this thread you say you used your ELECTRON, on the other you say you DON'T have an ELECTRON and only applied for one yesterday online.

As I said on that thread, does you card number begin 4917 or 4508?
Both of those are the main UK Visa Electron card numbers.
It will have Electron in italics under the Visa symbol (Not Debit)
Also, the details on the card will not be raised - only printed.

Okay i said i wanted a Visa Electron from Barclays they sent me a Connect card Visa Debit card. I wanted a Visa Electron from a bank. I have a Visa Electron from the PO But they charge 3% to add funds into it.
Ryanair payment page: My Visa electron was declined as the funds had not arrived there on time.
It asked me to TRY AGAIN which i did, i then choose a VISA DEBIT Card and to my surprise it still said £40.
So i clicked on Purchase and then got an email saying id been charged £56 after saying on the screen that it was a total of £40.
Your first card needs to be declined for it to say try again.
I guess the bank wanted to give me a debit card as a new customer when all i ever wanted was an Electron, i hope The CO-OP give it to me.
If not maybe i will get Blacklisted then i will get it...0 -
HENG LENG: Barclays told me yesterday at customer services that i had an Electron card, its funny it says Connect and Visa Debit on it and has raised letters and 4658 to start with. The PO ones starts 4245.0

Yes I've found there is a fault in the website booking process too. If your visa electron card gets declined, and you click the try again option, and use another card (e.g. mastercard) then the Handling Fee is not shown or added until your payment is accepted by which time it's too late and your lumbered with the fee.
I couldn't fathom out why my visa electron card was declined. I had cleared funds in the bank account. I tried about 5 variations of lower caps and upper caps for name and address details but nothing worked. Pain in the neck. Has anyone actually had successful payments go through on Visa Electron for Ryan Air, because that's the only card they claim they don't charge for via their website?
Looks like this fault is still on going 9 mths after adams30 first posted here. Not exactly confidence building is it Ryan Air? Never ceases to amaze me how big brands still manage to get a basic like this wrong.0 -
