Scottish Power ripped me off in the past with DD.
I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

  • scottish hydro set my dd too low also.
my experience tells me that from now on, when setting up a new dd for a new energy supplier, that you should set it up so that you are paying the same amount as your previous one or even slightly more.
All too often we hear reps saying "we can set you up with a lower dd amount to save you money". sadly this puts people in a position where they may build up an amount of debt that they cannot afford to pay, which in turn could eventually lead to the dry meter being replace with a prepay type.

when I am signing up a new customer they are asked how much a year they spend on gas and electric. the information I get is from the customer. I have no idea what a family of 2, 3 , or 6 may use as every family has a different approach to how many lights are left on in a day or other factors that affect energy bills. i always recommend keeping it the same as their old supplier.
as said before, if you use the energy you have to pay for it. we dont have any option. just ensure you are happy that the amount you set for the dd is going to cover you.

Hi buck, to be honest I've no idea and maybe no one else has either. If I were you I'd be inclined to ring both and find out what the tariff's are, the discounts too, it's possibly the only way you'll know for sure.

It'll be interesting to know. All the best.

Scottish and Southern offer Energyplus Care: http://www.southern-electric.co.uk/Help/ForYourHome/SpecialPackages/Default.aspx

Scottish and Southern have stated that Energyplus Care customers will have no increase in prices untill early 2009 and it will still be 20% cheaper than their standard tarrif !!!!

Thanks for this, billsavings, you are an angel :A

Because of your post I was able to set my mind at rest today. We are chronically ill & easily worry that we won't be able to pay our utility bills

just phoned S&S and a lovely operator informed me that S&S have already raised their tariffs which is still a lot cheaper than British Gas. Plus we can apply for the EnergyCare Plus tariff.

If anyone is interested here is energywatch's graph showing how suppliers are performing:

just phoned S&S and changed to them from scottish power, anything has to be better than them. they said a form for EnergyCare Plus tariff will be sent in post to see if they are entitled, but he told me if they cant get on it they can cancel and try another provider, but does not see why they should not be.

so thankyou for advice and comments to all :-)
