Prepayment Meter Help

Hi

I use a prepay meter for my Electricity and have done for several years. The meter was already installed when we arrived.

For years we used British Gas for our Electric but changed to EON in April.

Imagine my surprise when I got a letter in the post this week from EON, saying we were £78 in the red! £22 of which was a standing charge for the past 4 months, a charge we were told was being taken away at the end of April. The other £56 is apparently for Electricty we have used.

I am confused as we pay our electric as we go and we were told the standng charge was no more.

Tried phoning EON yesterday, but there was a queue.

Has anyone else had this kind of issue with EON?

I've checked on their site and any price increases apparently get put on the key the next time you pay for credit, so it can't be that?

Thanks for any help

If you have a key meter (plastic key) then yes the tariff should update when you vend. Therefore get onto them and ask how this amount has built up. Unfortunately if the meter has updated correctly they have 12 months to claim it back under the Billing Code.

    Thanks for your reply.

It is indeed a plastic key meter. I shall have to get onto them again and ask, but it's bizarre if it's not updated correctly. They've not sent anyone out in the last 4 months to do anything.

Wish I never changed now. Was with British Gas for 13 years, no real problems and only changed because of price 'promises'.

I've learnt - if something works, don't change to something that probably doesn't :(
