Car mileage ?

Our insurance certificate says annual mileage 4000. What happens if we go over this? Husband only really uses it to get to work and back, but the kids are doing different activities now and we have to drop off and pick up within 10 minutes now. I used to walk with them but cannot make it in that time frame.

Just ring them up and tell them, there may be an increase in your premium to pay.

It depends on the legal wording - I would have though "approximate mileage" and you would be fine to do 4200 miles for example. If it says "maximum mileage" then you probably wouldn't be ok.
If you break the terms of you insurance you could be left uninsured which is a serious matter.
As said above best action is to contact your insurer and change the policy. It might not even effect your premium.

the only time you'll ever get caught is if you wrap the thing up and it gets written off and they want a copy of the original invoice from when you bought it. If this has 48,000 miles on 2 years ago when you bought it and it now shows something like 78,000 miles when the insurance bloke goes to see it then you may get in trouble.

But you could say someone else has been driving it 3rd party with your permission...
