Hi
Like a number of others on here, I have recently switched from Energy Online Extra to PP 17. I also got the Maplin eleci meter deal advertised on HotUK Deals to get an idea of how much stuff costs to run.
To help me work out the running costs, can anyone please tell me when the night rate kicks in and out on PP 17?
Also, did the Energy Online Extra rate go up in the recent round of increases?
Cheers, in advance.

Did you select the E7 version of PP17 (I assume you have an Economy 7 meter?). E7 times depend on where you are in the country. You have a reference number on your bill (mpan) that starts with 2 numbers between the range of 10 - 25, most of the relevant E7 times are here;

Yes the Saver 5 version did increase but the newer Saver 8 is still at the old price. I phoned Eon yesterday and with calculations I have made have switched to the Saver 8 tariff. The longer they keep the old rate the better but could change at anytime.0 -

!!!!!! - how embarrassing I don't know! How can I tell if I have eco7?0 -
An Economy 7 product should say it's an E7 version in any paperwork. Another way to tell is E7 products will have 3 different rates, usually with Eon called; primary, day and night rates. So if your paperwork shows 3 different unit rates you should be on E7, if it just shows primary and secondary then you're on a single rate tariff (although I know that doesn't sound right having said it will have 2 rates - but it is right!).
Not having E7 may be right for you. Are you all electric? Do you have night storage heaters. Do you use less than 20-25% elec during the night time period (as detailed in the Eon link I posted above). Dependant upon these answers you may be better off without E7 and Eon don't require that you change your meter - unlike some other companies. This also has the advantage that if you stay with Eon and your pattern of use alters meaning E7 could be good for you they only have to alter their system, not exchange your meter to put you back to E7.0 -
The letter I got reads:
PP17
First 225 kWh per qtr 28.10
Addtl kWh 11.96
Night Units 5.40
...so I guess I do not have Eco7.
By the way, I do not have electric storage heaters and apart form normal stuff - fridge, freezer etc, nothing big running at night, so maybe this isn't an issue for me?
Cheers
I've just noted that my letter detailing the product change states that my gas is charged at 5.314p for the first 680 NOT 2680 interesting????0 -
you do have E7 (3 different rates quoted, including a night rate). I'd suggest working out how much you're using at your night rate over the next few months (or look back over the last 12 months if you've got the figures). If you're using less than 20-25% on night rate you should consider switching to a single rate version of PP17, it will probably be cheaper. Eon won't need to change your meter and they should keep you on PP17.0

thanks brysiewysie, i was going to ask the same question about night times. i too have an ordinary meter and ive been put on E7 PP17 but nowhere on the paperwork does it actually state its E7. if i hadnt read this i would have been paying a lot more as ive no electric on in the night anyway and its dearer than standard rate.i assumed everyone got this cheaper rate at night. ive told Eon and they were apolegetic about not making this clear on the signing up papers. how many other people have made this mistake and havent realized?0
