Memory foam toppers are just toppers and not mattresses. If you lay on a topper you will sink the depth of the topper so that you are basically lying on the floor. You must have a layer under the memory foam to give it bounce, as the memory foam has none.
You are guessing, whereas I speak from experience. A 3" topper gives more than enough support. The floor acts as a base. It's the best nights sleep you'll ever get!
And it's perfect for a young student.

No I'm not guessing as many people in these forums will tell you.
I suspect the topper you had wasn't actually memory foam. The way memory foam is constructed you will sink the full depth. It is designed to mould to your body rather than give you comfort. If you had 6" of memory foam you would sink most of the way into it and still end up more ofr less lying on the floor.0 -

I respectively suggest you keep your day job, as you ain't gonna make a detective!
I have TWO 3" MEMORY FOAM (60kg/m3) toppers on the floor, and they are very comfy. Yes one does sink down somewhat, but the surface is soft and luxuriant.
You've NEVER ever slept on a memory foam topper, have you?
