I've been selling on ebay for a few years and have decided to set up a website since the fees continue to increase.
I wondered if anyone can advice on what I need to do, for example buying domain name, web space, how to accept payments, keep it secure etc any help/advice.
Thanks in advance

Don't know, but you also need to think about how to bring surfers to your site. After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?0 -
Domain name is your first stop, try 123reg http://www.123-reg.co.uk/
Once you have the domain web space can be bought naywhere, no doubt others will advise on that
Sorry I cannot advise on other aspects as I have no experience on secure sites except as a userEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
hi sara,
firstly as pointed out you need to register a domain name. I personally use 123-reg.co.uk as they give 9% quidco.
Pick the right name for our business as driving traffic to your own site is definitely going to be a challenge.
I used webhostingbuzz.com for my hosting but drop me a pm and I'll explain how to get it cheaper than the 3.95 dollars per month.
Then you need to set up a website on this page. The cheapest way to do this is to use open source material. I use joomla for every site I make (I design websites) as this makes it very cheap to set up. There is little coding on my part and this keeps the costs down. www.joomla.org for the information on it.
Accepting payments is very easy. You can integrate paypal into your site with very little coding and this allows you to accept payments in the same way ebay does. Another option is google checkout - which is my preferred method due to the reduced fees.
There's loads I could go into about websites, but the most important is how you are going to drive traffic to your site. Ebay can charge large fees because it markets its brand very heavily and people will be directed to your good quickly and easily.
Budget £300-£500 for an entry level site, but definitely speak to a designer before you go any further with your plans as they can advise you in the best way to do things. I'll happily answer any questions if you need any help.David James aint got nothing on me0
