Speeding ticket
hi,
ive been driving just under two years, last xmas i received a speeding ticket from a camera on some bridge and recently was stopped roadside by a guy with a speed gun for doing 45 in a 30.
i didnt have my license on me so went the very next day to give my driving details in, but since this i have heard nothing and its been just over two months. i cant remember everything from the policeman who stopped me as at the time i was preety angry/upset with myself nor can i recall everythingthe policewomen told me at the station as again i was preety hysterical
i know what i have done is wrong and if people post back with no sympathy i understand as now ive come to terms with how stupid i was, even though lets face it no one can say they have never gone above the speed limit on occaision. i was caught and ive no excuse.
hopefully someone can help, i dont understand why i havent heard anything, i was told at the station i would hear something from them in two to three weeks. my other half seems to think it might have been dropped which i cant see but still, because apparently they have to tell you in 21 days.
as well as this if my license is revoked, id heard there may be classes or something you can attend as an alternative to having points on a license or it being revoked? is this rubbish or a real alternative.
lastly if my license is revoked what happens to my current insurrance, is it just cancelled?
many thanks

They have up to 6 months to bring a prosecution against you. The time limit you stated, which is actually 14 days, doesn't apply as you were caught by an officer and not a camera and were therefore given a verbal "Notice of Intended Prosection" at the time of the offence.
In addition, the speed awareness course isn't available everywhere and there's no automatic right to it. There's no guarantee you'd be offered it and its only usually offered to those a few MPH over the limit, certainly not someone whose driving is so poor they were 50% over. I expect the "you'll be hearing from us in the next few weeks" was probably in regard to going on the course but I guess they quite rightly decided it was too serious.
In short, expect to go to court, stand before the man and lose your licence as well as a fair few quid. DO NOT DRIVE TO COURT because if they ban you, it's immediately and you cannot drive your vehicle home. You need to immediately inform your insurers when it has gone to court. As you have no licence, your insurance will be invalid as having a current licence is a condition of that insurance. Also expect that insurance in the future to be horrifically expensive due to the ban.0 -
What Conor said.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
As you have not held your licence for two years and will acrue 6 points, three for the first offence and a minimum of three for this offence, you will lose your licence and have to retake your driving test.
Link to DVLA
New Drivers Act
Your driving licence is automatically revoked if you build up six or more penalty points within two years of passing your first driving test. This includes any penalty points you had before passing the test, which are still valid. You’ll have to reapply for your driving licence as a learner driver and resit your driving test.
It may be another month or two before you hear anything, the courts have up to 6 months. Regarding insurance, once you lose your licence, ring up your insurers and explain what has happened to them as you will need to be on a policy of some sort in order to continue as a provisional licence holder.
Who does the act affect
This applies to drivers and motorcyclists from Great Britain (GB), Northern Ireland, European Community and European Economic Area (EC/EEA) countries, Isle of Man, Channel Islands or Gibraltar for a period of two years from passing their first driving test in these countries.
I think with your inability to cope with speed limits, you may benefit from discussing this with your instructor and having extra lessons whilst attempting to retake your driving test.0 -

Depending on the area, some Courts can take up to 5-6 weeks to process the paperwork for a summons, so I should give it another few weeks before breathing a sigh of relief.
I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx.
