Currently with TalkTalk.
I need a second line and just wondering what options I have and if anyone has any suggestions?
As far as I see it I have several options:
1) AVirgin line (as I might be interested in their TV services too) but can I use the 0844 and 0870 "telecom provider" numbers with them?
2) I could get a second TT line (but it seems I won't get a discount on the second line)
3) I could get a BT line.
Thanks,
Mandy

Do you have broadband? If so, a VoIP line would be worth considering.
SIPGate (www.sipgate.co.uk) is a good provider - the outgoing call rates are not the cheapest compared with other VoIP providers, but you do get a free UK phone number (either 08xx or a geographical number in the area code of your choice) to receive calls.
If you don't have a broadband router, you will be limited to using the service from software installed on a computer. If you do have a broadband router, you can use the service without a computer. To do this, you need to buy either of the following:- an IP telephone (prices start from about £30, like this one: http://www.sipgate.co.uk/voipshop/grandstream/grandstream_bt-101)
- an Analogue Telephone Adapter (ATA) to connect to a normal telephone. This is the one I have: http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopDetail.asp?ProductID=3508 - this model actually gives you two telephone points and is also available cheaper from ebay. You will also need a small cable adapter, as mentioned on the link.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -

If you have broadband I would go for that option as it will be a free incomming call with two more numbers
Some routers will already have the facility to use VOIP so check your router details first.0 -
If you want a second line in order to make calls and you can switch broandband provider then consider Orange Home. That will give you a second line with free landline calls 24x7 to UK and 30 international destinations.0
