Brand New Sky+ Box, but only 3 months Warranty???

Hi guys, I'm hoping maybe someone on the forum could shed some light on this for me.
I have had 4 refurb Sky+ boxes from Sky in the last 3 months. All fitted by AVC. When I called AVC last week, to complain about my 4th box - I asked whether I could I have a brand new box? They got in touch with Sky, who agreed to this. It was fitted this morning and the engineer confirmed it WAS infact a BRAND NEW box and that it comes with 3 months warranty, not 12 months.
Sky have also confirmed this, I didn't make a fuss as I wasn't sure I had a leg to stand on. I have always been under the impression that if you recieve anything new in the UK you get a statutory 12 month warranty.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Im not 100% sure myself, Sky are a rip off they pray on the weak to take an insurance policy out with them for your box! What a waste of money? £9 a month or somthing like that! I do no if you get a free box when you sign up you down own it until your 3 months into your contract!
I simple said to sky if my box brakes and you dont repair it, I will cancel my subscription and if you wont let me do it ill stop my standing order.
Sorry I dislike insurance companys they are just big con artists, I got a new mobile phone they wanted to charge me £5.99 a month to insure it even though its only £69.99 to buy in the shops!
I had a refurbed box which broke so the engineer come out and said "I cant believe they installed this refurbed box its awful" so he fitted a new one and I have had it about 2 years now and its still working great! If this one gives up the goose Ill get a HD box but im in no rush!£10 a day - Sept 08 £245/£3000
