No, and its a lot cheaper than London too
St. Leonards (where the hospital is) is considered one of the nicer parts of town, though I'm sure it varies. Looking on Rightmove, you can rent a modern 2 Bed house within a mile of the hospital for £550.
Hastings is a bit rough around the edges, but its arguably more interesting than some of the other towns on the South Coast.
Good luck with the move

St Leonards is quite nice but avoid Hollington area and Tile Barn.....dodgy!! Avoid Ore at all costs!!
Most of Old Town is a big No No too.
Personally Bexhill or Battle is nicer but a little further to travel. The schools in Hastings are crap too, so dont know if you have children. It really isnt a nice place to live.
The Conquest Hospital is a good hospital and the only main hospital in the area. There is also an excellent Bupa hospital attached and they offer much better pay to their workers.

Battle's not a bad trip by road - dunno about public transport though.
Some of the surrounding villages are nice too - Westfield (parts of!), Sedlescombe, Guestling, even Brede.
Postcode for the hospital is TN37 7RD, which will help with multimap, upmystreet & rightmove.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

This conversation should shed some light.

When we visited on a Saturday, the town centre was all chavs being chased around by the cops, or sitting around drinking outside those flats on the seafront.
Given a choice and a decent car, Rye is much nicer.Been away for a while.0 -
It was on the news last night for a racist murder. Not sure I'll be visiting anytime soonKrusty & Phil Madoff, 1990 - 2007:

TBH - That kind of thing can happen anywhere. Dont base your descision on that kind of thing.

Actually Rye has more youth crime problems than Hastings because there is absolutely nothing there for them to do.
For an ex Londoner Hastings is one of the better towns on the South coast - the Old Town is funky and full of good restaurants (but half the price of London), there are far fewer elderly people, which tends to be a bit of a downer in places like Bexhill. In the summer the town has a large influx of European students on language courses, which gives it quite a cosmopolitan feel. You can rent a seaview (or parkview) flat for a reasonable price and have I mention the standard of food? The locally caught fish is outstanding (and cheap) and the farmers market is also excellent.
Most of the people are friendly and polite ( one of the first things you notice is that everyone thanks the bus driver.) Of course there is always an idiot element, but the police are quite active in cleaning up areas - drinking on the seafront for instance is now banned. Most of the 'crime' is actually low grade stuff like minor damage to cars, etc, irritating rather than dangerous.
While i like brighton too, in recent years it has become much more expensive due to the influx of Londoners, conversion to city status, etc. Hastings is still low cost and is a much more manageable size - with all the facilities you need but a more relaxed feel. Most people I've met coming from London love it.
Trying to keep it simple...

We moved from Hastings to London 10 years ago (my husband is originally from London). I worked with the Police and the criminal courts and I can assure you that Hastings does have alot of crime. Alot of high risk sex offenders are housed either in Brighton, Hove or Hastings as nowhere else in the UK will accept them when they are released from prison.
There are some nice areas in Hastings but for us when our DD was born 13yrs ago we knew the schools were rubbish and wanted her to have a better choice of schools. For us we made the right decision.
Dont the students get on your nerves..lol?
There is a wicked Fish & Chip shop in Kings Road, St Leonards though:D
I dont mean any offence.

I think that’s a euphemism. They don’t want to upset you……for some reason I always get the "your post is not long enough" (even though it is) error at work.
Don’t you believe it! I lived there for two years near Hollington, and my insurance company refused to pay any more claims for damage and loss for my car. The police were not at all interested in petty crime either. FYI, ‘petty’ seems to kick in at about £5000 there…tirednurse wrote: »…I live in East London at the moment and would imagine that Hastings can't be any worse than here.
Seriously though, good luck with the job application. I’d get started in the job and rent a room local to the hospital. The HR bods at the hospital will most surely help you find something half decent to rent. The negative comments above are unfortunately not a joke, and renting will allow you to see if you like the job, and also allow you to get to know the area.0
