London Travelcards & Oyster

Hi guys

Thanks for the great travel tips and info on this board, I'm sure everyone on here is saving tonnes of money because of this :) .

I have a question for all you London transport experts. At the moment I catch a train every morning from Clapham Junction to Vauxhall and then a bus from Vauxhall to my office near Millbank. I have an Oyster Card with prepay (auto top-up) and a zone 2 monthly travelcard on it. I use the prepay for the 2 bus journeys and the monthly travelcard for my return rail journey.

Would it be cheaper for me to get a monthly zone 1-2 travel card or carry on as I am? I also occasionally catch the tube on wkends to central london but I use my pre-pay for that at the moment too.

Thanks in advance,

Shegs

I think the thing to do is calculate how much you pay now, then work out how much you would have to pay with a travel card. If the latter is less than the former then consider changing.

Info for your sums on https://www.tfl.org ;)!

But seriously, I found that a travel card was cheaper for me in a similar but not identical situation so worth checking out. Any extra weekend trips will also make a diff...

Hi, bit late this reply but hope it if of some use.

If you already have a Zone 2 Monthly Travelcard then it is already valid on all London Bus services, as there are no bus zones anymore. So your Pre Pay credit should not be deducted when you touch in on the bus provided your Travelcard is valid.

So the answer is almost certainly was to stick with a Zone 2 only Travelcard. However since these don't exist anymore I'm not sure what you are doing now.
