removing old back boiler

Hi,
We had a new comb-boiler fitted in our house last year along with some new raditors etc.. unfortunetly we were left with a dated and ugly 1970's (?) fire which we would like to replace althugh it works fine is doesnt fit in with the room and probbaly isnt very economical!!
Our plumber at the time told us however that to have a modern fire put in we'd have to have rip out the chimney breast to rip out the old back boiler first and it would be costly.
Its something im seriously considering now though but does anyone have any rough ideas of cost?? Ive seen few posts but the quotes include replacing boilers which weve already done.
Also does anyone know if id need a builder to then rebuild the chimney breast? Just i have NO idea how big this back boiler is??!!

its very unlikely you will need to rip anything out. once the fire is out/off, the boiler should come out easy.
you may need to do some work before a new fire is installed. i had to install a new lintel and some more bricks to make the hole smaller, before PB the whole breast.Get some gorm.0
