Changed banks and now a DD for CC payment not set up- late fee

Hi all,

I recently switched from HSBC to 1st Direst. The process was smooth and i was happy. Roll on today...

I check my online account and CC. I now see that they have charged me a £11 late admin fee. I phone up to find out what has happened to be told that i didn’t tick the box to say pay full balance by DD when due, like it was at HSBC. Now this is a new account and I was thinking they might offer me some leeway, NO. There was no understanding from them in the slightest, almost glad they had got me after 9 years of paying my CC in full every month :(

How does this late fee affect my credit rating? Am i being paranoid about that? I luckily still kept my HSBC account open so I told them I’m moving back. Will HSBC be upset or will that things be ok there do you think? Does anyone think 1st Direct might back down and show some sympathy as this is a newly created account or would they rather the £11?

Sorry for so many questions but I’ve never had such problems with a Bank in all my life and it has me worried.

A first time late payment charge should be pretty easy to get reversed providing you ask nicely and make the payment that was due! Future late payments may not be so easy.

First Direct may record it as a late payment and send that information to the CRA's, but that's by no means certain. You'll have to check your credit report in a few weeks if you're that concerned about it. One late payment will have a negliable effect on your overall rating providing you don't have other problem areas.

    Thanks for the replies :)

1st Direct are not willing at all to reverse this, i have tried since. I'm pretty sure there arent any other areas in my credit rating that would have cause for concern so i will pay up and get along with it. As advised i will check my credit report later in Sept to put my mind at ease.
