BT operator calls

Options
I use BT as my home phone provider. I pay a small amount of money to bar outgoing calls to mobiles as my teenage son was running up huge bills calling mobile numbers. On my latest bill I have £121 (just 12 calls in total) worth of calls to mobiles connected through the operator. My argumant with BT is that I am being charged for something they clearly are not providing. I have rung Bt to complain and seem to be getting no where. They simply respond saying that they have barred mobile calls but have no control over who the operator connects you to.

Can anyone offer any advise on how I can get a refund - Is it worth me threatening to leave BT? Would I be able to claim via a small claims court.

Thanks in advance

    Control your son.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

  • Complain about what? BT tell you can still make calls using operator services when you use call barring,so i dont see how you consider they are not providing the service you paid for.

One of these might prove handy ! http://www.safield.co.uk/internet-phone-guardblock-outgoing-landline-calls-p-614.html

Your just not using the right code

    *344# to block operator calls.

    Also control your son....
If saved £2710 and only spent the interest (Based on a return of 5%), you would have enough money to pay your TV Licence every year. Saving you £7452.50 over a period of 55 years, based on you buying a license from the age of 20 until your 75 at a cost of £135.50.

Fit a Commtel Phone Guard, hide the keys and don't tell him the 4-digit PIN. They work on 'allowed' numbers rather than barred numbers so, if you don't allow any number starting with 1, that prevents calls to 100, 118*, 1471 and 1571.

    * He could get around 100 not being allowed by using one of the 118 Directory Enquiry services (many of which offer 'call connect' too) or by dillaing 3 after 1471 or 0 after a 1571 message if you have that on your line.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I know Louisa won't like this comment since it takes responsibility and action to resolve a problem but sort your Son out!

So, your Son makes calls to Mobiles, you tell him not to and he carries on. You set up call barring and he deviously finds a way round it! He runs up a huge bill, He knows what he's doing, He causes you to have to sort out the problem, but, you know, rather than take HIM to task, you look for somebody else to take responsibility. You blame BT and want money from them because your Son continues to defy you and he couldn't care less about the consequences because you don't make him suffer any consequences!

He carries on, putting two fingers up to you because instead of making HIM resonsible, you blame the telephone company! IT IS YOUR SON WHO KEEPS RUNNING UP BILLS!!! Let HIM take responsibility and make HIM pay HIS bill!

If you have had to set up call barring he clearly has no respect whatsoever for you. Bill him for the calls made so far and get the money off him. This shows you mean business! Until he pays, he doesn't get fed, use of tv, computer, use of facilities such as bath or shower etc! That'll do the trick!

    Completely agree with Amanda.

It's not BT's responsibility to dictate who can use the Operator service, or what numbers they can connect to.
