  • Hi there.
This is not a good laptop to be honest. It doesnt come with mircrosoft office (which you will have to fork out £100 for) and also usually now, laptops tend to have dual core processors and more memory than this.

Usually with a laptop, it is best to spend quite a bit of money so that is lasts. This one will be out of date very quickly, and would not cope to well with the newer versions of windows and office, plus then you need a decent virus scanner and spyware. You would find this laptop very very slow.

With laptops, save as much as you can and shop around for your money, £199 for a laptop is never really a very good idea, the more you can spend the better, it will last you a lot longer.

Also, Acers have had problems with hard drive failures and also problems with charging and battery packs. A new battery pack costs over £100 if yours stops charging after a few months...

Depends what you want to use it for. No good for playing games that require lots of graphics memory, agreed, but for carting around when you are out and about, you know casusal web surfing, IM, email etc, it's a bargain. Get a PAYG 3G USB broadband modem for on-the-move internet access.

It has an 8GB SSD so no worries about killing the hard disk, and you can get an 8GB SDHC card from Play.com at £13.99 to increase your SSD capacity to 16GB.

Get the Linux version and don't worry too much about anti-virus and anti-spyware protection protection (you can get something for free).

It comes with OpenOffice (which is open source & free) which can read & save MS Word and Excel docs.

You can't go wrong, if this fits your requirements...
  • If you just want it for uni work then you cannot really go wrong for £199. Acers are not great, but the Linux OS is better than Vista and you can get Open Office for free.

    Not a bad buy
