Printer problem

Hi there
I have an HP psc 1210 all in one, which has worked fine for 2+ years. I tried to scan something, but got no response. It is still printing and copying (despite a status message that says 'error - HP psc disconnected'. I have uninstalled the software, unplugged the printer, and then tried to set it up again 'from the box' and have got exactly the same message - but it is still printing and copying. Just not scanning. When I try to open HP Director, the system 'whirs' a bit, then nothing comes up.
Any ideas???

    have you updated the driver from HP's website (go to support) this might have been a problem they have now fixed
    If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
