Sorry in advance: Rant about Halifax!

Just called Halifax on behalf of OH to discuss a DD they had returned which we had no knowledge of. On this call they removed the charge and cancelled the DD (which was great). Then the girl on the phone, explained that my OH had an Easycash account, which we were aware of (it's just for the bills to come out of) and that we should change the account to a normal current account with a small overdraft incase a DD ever came out again we weren't aware of.
After discussing it on the call, we agreed and asked if they'd just upgrade the account. She said this wasn't possible?! And that a new account would need to be opened but they would transfer all the DD's accross to the new account. We agreed and after 10 minutes holding on a mobile, put through to the new accounts department who told us we'd have to arrange all the transfers ourselves!
Why can't banks make sure all their staff know their policies instead of wasted money and time hanging round to be told something different!

On checking the Halifax transfer service http://www.halifax.co.uk/bankaccounts/switchingtous.asp
I'd say that the person you spoke to in the new a/c's dept got it wrong...Homeowner with 1st mortgage sine Dec 09

I would say they got it right, I'm afraid. The link you quote refers to switching accounts to Halifax - not within Halifax, where they expect you to organise transfers yourself. Which is actually the sensible option, as you're more likely to juggle the changes correctly. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Why can't they simply just upgrade the account though?! Most banks do this without having to change sort code/account number etc...it just seems a lot of hassle for the sake of an overdraft!0

I agree it would be sensible but Abbey operate the same way. In fact they offered to "upgrade" my current account with them but they didn't seem to understand the meaning of the word and opened another account with the better terms instead - so I had two Abbey current accounts. (Getting rid of both of them soon.)0 -
....It is called "Personal Financial Management", read twice, sign once and make sure that you are happy with what you have signed up for, if not don't sign and commit....simple.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0

I would be more concerned that Halifax discussed someone else's account with you?0

I agree with old age traveller!
Also it is a very simple process to amend a D/D from one account to another for any bank - they should have done this - I can see why you are ranting at them.0 -

He was there with me, so confirmed his details before I spoke to them.0
