Trying to close credit card

after having paid my monthly minimum, £84 came into a bit of money about 6 days later and paid off the ballance, about £3600 and tried to cancel. At the end of the month got in a statement saying that there was £84 interest owing for the month just passed. Is this correct? any advice please as this doesn't seem right.

It's 'residual interest', and is correct. To stop it you'll need to either pay two consecutive statements in full or overpay slightly to create a small positive balance (which they will then forward you as part of the closure process).
