Praise for Lloyds TSB

I don't make a habit of praising banks and I will qualify what follows by stating that I remain firmly of the belief that all banks and financial institutions are like the spawn of Satan only more evil.
However...they are a necessary evil.
I have banked with The Woolwich for years, they were very good, but last May Woolwich customers got switched to barclays (who had owned them for years anyhow) and I was never happy with the inferior service provided.
I have tried opening new accounts but can't get them. Despite getting two mainstream credit cards recently (Mint and Virgin), the banks won't generally touch me. Even the Co-Op said no! Despite me never going into the red since my bankruptcy in 1996.
Anyway for years I've had a "spare" Lloyds TSB account knocking about with just a few minor bits and bobs coming in and out. Earlier this month I instructed them to switch my DDs etc from Barclays, ready for action in September, and I have today had the letter confirming this is all done. Some payees have not confirmed to the bank that they have changed the details, and Lloyds TSB have told me which...I have phoned them all, but in fact they HAVE got the new details, they just didn't bother to tell anyone.
It's all been very efficient.
Plus LLoyds have upgraded me to Classic Plus, with the 4% interest payment, despite not yet having seen the required amount go in as salary.
On top of that I'm signing up to their "save the change" scheme which I believe is in the spirit of MSE!
So overall, I'm quite pleased, insofar as one CAN be pleased with a money-grabbing profiteering bank!

I have to say that I think Lloyds are great also.
I switched to them three weeks ago from First Direct and they've been great-so much better than all the hassles that I had with FD.
They sent my debit card and pin 4days after I opened the account on Fri afternoon. FD took 36 days!!
They also switched my DDs and SOs from FD and were showing within 7 days.
The account could b used and viewed online by the Mon (3days after applying) absolutely brilliant.
I paid cash and a cheque in today and was showing instantly, whereas last time I paid cash or a cheque in via a HSBC machine for FD on a weekend, didn't show up till nearly 2pm on the Mon. My parents have been with them for 40+ years and never once complained.
I'm so glad to b getting rid of the incompetent FD!!0 -
Hmm, well unless you want to sign up for "Save The Change" and need to open a savings account...doing so online gives an error, try ringing them up and they have to transfer you to another department, who are always engaged!! Go into a branch and they make you an appointment to come back in a month's time.
That's one weak area.
Moral: don't promote products you cannot actually sell.
But apart from that, they are good.
Pity, as the "Save The Change" scheme is very good, but useless if you cannot sign up to it.0 -
Been with them for over 25 years and they are the best. You will get the whingers on here who moan about them. However beware if you do not keep to the terms and conditions you must accept the consequences.0

Hi Everybody,
I also bank with Lloyds TSB, and all I can say is they far better than Barclays ever were when I banked with them. The save the change idea is a good one, as it helps you to build your savings without you realising it.
I can go into my local branch and sort things out quickly and they all remember my name.
There internet banking is far better than any other internet banking service i've seen, and there customer service department is always polite and helpful.
And no i dont work for them.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -
Apart from the 6.5% ISA debacle and the !!!!-up with interest payments on their classic account, I too am happy with my Lloyds accounts.
I always go to my local branch for dealing with any issues. They are great for such a small branch.0 -

Ha! ha! Hope you don't lose your job or become ill sound like you one of the 'people on benefit are scroungers' brigade!
Had an account for over 30 years until Lloyds sent a cheque book for an account that had been opened for one of our children 20 years ago. It had never been used apart from initial deposit of £2, until my wife used a couple of cheques and we went overdrawn for the first time, very surprised to get a letter informing us of the costs. To cut a long story short, Lloyds apologized for sending the wrong book but refused to waver the fees. So bye bye Lloyds.:p
Customer service was pants in this case, so beware you might have eat your words one dayControl is an illusion, chaos is the reality. A successful warrior dances with chaos, and success means simply that one is still alive.0 -
They Owe Me £590 In Bank Charges, These Charges Forced Us Into A Spiral And Eventually Bankruptcy.
