I recently bought a Belkin wirless router. Worked fine on both PC and MAC laptop.
This morning I was on the laptop across the room and I got a message pop up. I've typed the message below, but at this point won't insert the six double digit set code in full unless it's absolutely necessary.
IP Configuration
192.168.2.2
[six double digit set code] DHCP Server 192.168.2.1
After that, I couldn't access the internet on the Laptop, but no problem on the PC.
Now this suddenly jogged my memory that I was supposed to do the security and forgot so I've been unsecure for a couple of days.
I managed to figure out that the Belkin security site was 192.168.2.2 instead of 192.168.2.1, which is what it was when I looked a few days ago, and set up the security.
My laptop now clearly shows the network as locked, but I cannot log in at all with the same password that I used to set the security.
Also, my PC popped up a window a few minutes ago claiming there was an IP conflict between another piece of hardware.
Can someone please shed some light on whether I have one problem or two different problems and how to solve it/them please. I have very basic knowledge so some patience and no big tech words would be much appreciated.

What is the model type/number of the Belkin ?

The password you need to log in to your router and set it up is different to the password that you need to connect to your router once you have set up security.
The log in username / password will still be at the default unless you've changed it... I think it's usually: username: "Admin" password: "" (blank) for Belkin's, but depends on the model really - check the manual - you should probably change it too, in the long run.
I think the default address for the router is usually 192.168.1.1 too, so I'm not sure what's happened to yours.
Worst comes to worst, there'll be a hard-reset button on the back, and you can start again from scratch.Russia is HERE0 -
Thanks for replying guys. Just to let you both know that I managed to resolve it.
It was two separate problems.
The IP conflict seemed to be easily solved just by rebooting. We rarely turn our computers off and usually let them just sleep. But rebooting seemed to get the computers to automatically reassign themselves new non-conflicting IPs.
But to solve the other one I ended up resetting everything on the router and starting again from scratch. It just seemed the easiest thing to do."carpe that diem"0
