Painting over external door?

Thanks for that, it's not as easy as I thought but hopefully I'll be able to make a good job of it now I bought some cheapo plastic-y brushes, would you recommend I bought some better ones if so any specific recommendations?

I sanded down mine (already glossed for 2 years previous)....painted in crown exterior gloss and it bubbled like nothing on earth then I sanded again and it peeled the original paint right down to the wood again!....
I now have a door thats blue like the flippin tardis with wood chunks showing through!...at least it looks different to anyone elses!!lol
