I was going to put this in the gardening section but it's not actually about gardening so here seems better.I want to paint a plastic plant pot for use outside, and I am having trouble working out what sort of paint I need, and if I need to do anything else eg primer or varnish etc.Any advice would be much appreciated.

Acrylic paint should be ok, it the plastic is smooth you may need to roughen it up with a bit of sand / glass paper. I'd probably give it a coat with some clear laquer after also, just to make it more hardwearing.

When painting plastic down pipes and gutters it is the norm to just apply two coats of gloss paint ( Dulux recommend this ).
I would guess that your pots could be painted in a similar way.0 -
I agree with WW, you dont have undercoat plastic, just straight forward gloss, that what you do with plastic drainpipes, so I expect the same applies to pots.0
