Decorators Plank

Hi.
I'm decorating my hallway and I'm going to need a plank for the stairs. I have a timber merchant close by, but I haven't a clue what I want. Its going to have to be about 8 feet long and take the weight of a 12 stone man. Could anyone give me advice on what I need?

I wouldn't know where to hire one from. It might come in handy in future though, I will be doing a lot of decorating in the future,

try freecycle for a scaffold plank. they sometimes come up on there.
you may need 2 planks (doubled up) if they look a bit bouncy!
    Get some gorm.

Scaffold board would be your best choice, and they are usually the same thickness.

The higher up the rung of the ladder you place your board to go across to the steps, the more weaker it feels, and being 12 stone, I would suggest you use 2 boards, one on top of the other for extra support.

I am a P&D and use scaffold boards all the time for HSL, and I am under 9 stone, and the higher up I use the board the more wobbly/bouncy it becomes, and even though I am a lighter weight than you, I still sometimes use 2 boards, as I feel more safe.

There is nothing worse than 'walking the plank' lol, and it bounces/wobbles, you are karping yourself, even I, an experienced P&D sometimes get a slight panic attack, specially when I am very high up.

Just make sure sure what ever boards you pick up, check for long deep splits, if they have them, dont use them.

You can pick them up from a builders yard, or sometimes by or near a skip.:D
