Moulin Rouge Party at home help!!!

DD is 16 on 13th Septmeber. She is having a party at home for about 30 teens and 10 adults. Has just dropped a bombshell, her and her mates have been out buying clothes to wear to a Moulin Rouge themed party (no one told me), Okay i got over that. Now i need to decorate the house in the theme. Our walls are bare, painted estate agent magnolia, ready to be wallpapered as and when, so they are not too precious fortunatly, this means posters etc can be stuck on them.
The problem is i dont have a clue, im good at dressing up clothes but decorating rooms is a mystery to me. Please can anyone of you lovely people help with inexpensive ideas for the house.
We have a through lounge, hallway, small lounge and kitchen (upstairs is a no go area) outside they are having a large tent and music with a decent sized patio area . Budget is about £100. Any suggestions (Apart from get an elephant) will be seriously considered and SOOOOO apprecciated. THANKYOU

Cover all lights with translucent red fabric and furniture with red or black fabric (look for remnants in fabric stores). Add a few posters - like the Toulouse-Lautrec ones - and

    some feathers somewhere.

Google Moulin Rouge images and print out posters to put up on walls, doors, tabletops etc.

(these will also give you some decorating ideas) Think Can Can Circus

Try Rediff Image search Moulin Rouge (cannot get the link to work today)
They have loads of images and you can do wallpaper saves and prints. Print a load out and glue them all together on the back or front of wallpaper to make banners or posters.
I have been lucky enough to go to the Moulin Rouge in Paris and it is all very red and black with velvets and netting and subdued lighting. Lots of feathers.
Can you get Ostrich feathers from somewhere and dye them to suit. (do you have an ostrich farm near?)
Everything is very gold as well can you get some branches with leaves on and spray them with gold spray paint.
Xmas lights would be good to, make them not so bright hang in front of dark material (fire resistant of course).
Lots of cushions throws, etc, beg borrow or steal from friends.
ASk friends for solar lights for the garden and also pop them into any tubs etc.
  • Thankyou SS321 I bet it was fantastic to visit the real Moulin Rouge. With any luck my house will be mistaken for it in September (perhanps I could sell tickets) The gold paint idea was one i hadnt considered. There isnt even a chicken farm near us much less an ostrich farm!! Weve got solar lights will look at placing them better. good points ,thanks a lot.

Just thought if you can't get feathers copy one from a website cut it out and spray around the cut out to make feather pictures?!

I bought my feathers from an antique/flea market for 20p each I had loads but chucked them as they are dust catchers. Sorry.
