I applied 3/4 weeks ago. Haven't heard nothing yet. They're very slow and usually send out the letter the week before school/college starts.

Assuming this is the letter that says 'you will get £xx a week and it is guaranteed for the three years dah de dah'...
DD applied in June and received hers a good few weeks ago - either the end of July or beg August.
Have you received confirmation that they have your application and are dealing with it? She got that bit within days of sending her application off.
If not, I'd give them a call to check.0 -
I rang a couple of days ago to check on my son's application (as it states a 3 week waiting period on the application form & we applied early July) & was told that they have got a back-log & applications are taking a minimum of 5 weeks to process. The guy I spoke to told me he couldn't check on individual applications to see if they had even been received!0

I'm very concerned now about my son's EMA application. We sent the forms off in June but we've heard absolutely nothing, no acknowledgement, and my son hasn't even received his bank statement back!
The problem is if the helpline can't give any information (we've tried, what's the point of having a helpline!) how do we know if the application was received at all, it could have been lost in the post. How long are we supposed to wait until filling in the forms again? He goes back to school in 10 days.0 -

Perhaps you could ask them what you should do if you have not even received this yet? Because it seems to me that something has gone missing in your son's case! It could be either the application itself , or, the acknowledgment letter though.
Maybe also ask them how long you should leave it before applying again? And perhaps ask them what would happen if you re-applied and ended up with two applications in the system?
Personally, I'd re-apply for definite if he's heard nothing by the time he goes back because he applied in good time and therefore, it should be sorted by the time he starts!0 -
I phoned them Thursday as my son had applied at the beginning of June, had his letter of entitlement but not his notice of entitlement (which is the part he needs to bring to college).
I was told there had been a technical hitch and that 70,000 notices had been sent out this week. His arrived Friday.0
