What cable(s) do I require to display my laptop onto my HD-TV?

Modern laptops all have the same ports.

Err no they don't. Some come with s-video, less come with DVI and even less come with HDMI.
I would suggest yours might come with s-video but let us know what model number your Acer is and should be able to go from there.
If it does have s-video output then you'll need an s-video cable and a scart adapter with s-video input.
Also you should have a VGA out port on your laptop so you can plug that into your VGA input into the TV.Always looking for a bargain and to help0 -

Then the only option you have is a VGA cable.
Is it just a standard VGA cable then?
That gets plugged into the blue VGA port back of my laptop and then simply other end into the back of the TV?

No VGA only sends a video signal so you'll need 2 phono to jack leads.Always looking for a bargain and to help0 -
