FIRE re credit card debt - make me an offer?

Hi

I have received a letter from a company called FIRE (Financial Investigations and Recoveries Europe) Limited regarding an old credit card debt. It says that "as a final attempt to resolve this matter and to stop further action, FIRE will guarantee to consider any sensible offer in full and final settlement of your account. This offer can be either a one off payment or a payment plan"

Has anyone had dealings with this company. Any advice about what would be considered a "sensible" offer?

thanks

  • not had any dealings with them but

send a request for a copy CCA credit card Agreement recorded delivery to FIRE, possibly ask for it in a SAR request to get the full info, together with a breakdown of the account as it stands with FIRE (following their taking over the agreement - They will have added on their own fees) it will cost 10 pounds though but the best 10 quid you could ever spend.

Simply acknowledging their letter and requesting a copy of the agreement and account breakdown to the present date is sufficient and will provide you with a few days to find some money if needs be or you could challenge them on the account.

If they cannot produce the copy agreement they cannot lawfully claim the debt and they also have a time limit to claim the debt of 6 years.

Also, just because you have had a letter from them also request a copy of your credit report from experian or equifax, or both for your info which isn't free but worth taking a look for peace of mind.

If you do not have the above info you can't really take any action on the debt.
  • thanks. i'll try that
