Virgin CC Payment

I have to make a payment on my Virgin CC its due on the 27th,. now bearing in mind its a bank holiday weekend, if I pay online or over the phone it wont clear until Thursday!

Now If I pay with cash over the counter does that show overnight so could pay tomorrow and be cleared on tuesday.

if you could let me know that would be great, wouldn't be good to make a late payment.

Cheers

Donna

Sorry but I think you are too late. 'Please allow 4 working days' is clearly stated. I paid cash into my Nat west card on the 6th August at a nat West Bank and it was credited on the 8th, which isn't too bad. On the assumption you pay it in on Tuesday 26th the earliest you can expect it to be credited on the 28 th, a day too late.

Might just be ok if you paid in cash today though.

If not you should check the threads relating to late payments on the Virgin card. Not sure if they are flexible on their late payment penalties and/of loss of interest free deals.

    Good luck!!
  • Thanks for that Neill,

So it should be ok if I pay it in tomorrow (sat), it should be cleared by Wednesday?

I wouldnt be so sure to count cash as cleared payment. As the bank would then write a cheque to Virgin Credit Card Services from there. Looks like you'll be late on the payment for sure. The next working day is Tuesday anyway!

ring them up and say you want to pay...last time I did this they said I was better off paying on their site and they'd allow me an extra working day....not sure as my experience was over a year ago but it's worth a try...

Had you acted before 5.00pm, payment online via the Virgin site would have reached your account on time. Payment at a bank (whether by cheque or cash) takes longer. You're asked to allow 4 working days.

If I were you, I'd phone Virgin Card Services on 01244 673700 (to avoid the dreaded 0870 numbers) and explain your oversight. If this is your first late payment, the charge may be waived. 'Might be an idea, while you're at it, to set up a direct debit to pay the minimum amount. That way, it's Virgin's responsibility, not yours, to make sure the monthly repayments get there at the right time ;)

    Donna,

Don't think paying in bank today will make any difference, it is not considered a working day.

I have a direct debit for my card so don't have to worry.

I nice humble phone call is in order I think. Something along the lines"..... of you don't know to much about the banking system, not sure if the payment will arrive in time coz I'm a little naive....", i forgot the bank holiday might be a good angle. Remember to smile down the phone!!!

I think I remember seeing a thread somewhere when someone was let off for a first offense, see the above posts. I suppose it is sensible to make the effort today to pay. It shows willing.

I did get a bank to waive a charge using the above method. It was however nothing to do with Virgin/MBNA.

humility is good....also don't talk MSE if you know what I mean...naive is a good word for this - not dumb just an "er., oops" kind of thing.....

  • Just to add: it doesn't matter if you pay by cash or cheque at your bank, the timescale is still "allow 4-5 working days". Fastest payment method is online, i.e 2 working days. Cheques - allow 7 working days.
