Disk Clean_up

Hi all i wonder if you can help,
the problem i have is when i run disk clean-up it will tell me the amount to clean to free up disk is 6,093,115kb, what is happening as i clean up regular, now the problem is when i run the disk clean-up it will tell me how much will be removed when i click ok it seems to start, but after about 5mins my computer shuts down and restarts, i ran avast no virus detected, anybody can you help,
ps. i am using windows xp pro

6GB of junk is quite a bit lol. What I would do is get your disk cleaned up but dont use Windows' "Disk Cleanup" (as it is causing it to reboot).
Try something like CCleaner from here... http://www.download.com/CCleaner/3000-2144_4-10454028.html?tag=lst-0-8

What is the majority of the junk out of that 6GB. Temp files, Temp Internet Files??
You may have to try another general Clean Up program or get one that concentrates on cleaning up the part thats got the most junk like Temp Internet files.
Does your PC restart with any other programs?0 -

6 gb of rubbish ?
dont take this the wrong way but have you emptied your recycled bin?
also do a search on your pc ( using the find function will do it) for files bigger than 40 meg. you may find you have a movie or game on there you forgot about.
also add/remove programs, see what is on there that you thought you had got rid of.
you may also need to update your anti virus and firewall and windows and then reboot.what is the plural of moose?

OK thanks everyone, problem now fixed it was compress old files, but could only remove these in save mode don`t know why took quite a few hrs, how they got this big i do not know as every week i clean up my computer they seem to have appeared from nowhere.0

compressed old files? where they files you recognise?what is the plural of moose?
