Getting out of gym membership

Well I contacted Virgin Active and said that I will be working out of area and due to being away a lot I wont be able to use the facilities so can I at least reduce my membership fee. No. The guy said that Virgin are very strict with the 12 month contracts and aren't flexible. He offered to freeze the membership - I think this means I pay a reduced rate per month, but it then pushes back the end of my contract.
Part of me is tempted to go with the freeze option while I'm struggling a bit but not sure if that is the best option as it just puts off getting rid of my membership. I really regret joining up now, but hey ho....0 -
I had something similar, entered a 12 month contract but was moving in 3 months, asked if i could cancel when i moved and was told if i moved at least 30 miles away there would be no problem cancelling as long as a letter with a different address was shown as proof of new address. One letter later and they cancelled it, nice and polite with no hassles.0

Well if you've GOT to stay a member, then perhaps you can use it to save you a bit of money?

Go there daily and have your shower there, use their toiletries & hair dryer.
Does it have a swimming pool? Is there no way you'd go with your OH? Even to read a book in their lounge area with their heating?
I'm sorry I was wrong about their friendliness. I remember now that my colleague was happy because of the frozen membership - it suited him at the time.0 -
I was a member of esport and they were HORRID when I tried to leave. I cancelled my dd in the end and they hounded me for months. I ended up having to pay up to the end on teh 12 months.Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0

hey, myself and oh were quite naughty and just cancelled the direct debit, we got a letter 3 months ago saying we had been passed to head quarters and we havent heard anything we do live in fear that a letter will come but we have the rest of the term aside, but i think that basically they understand the credit crunch and the 80 quid pm was too expensive to give away .... i would ring up and maybe explain.... ask them to cancel it or just stop the direct debit ask your husband to move gyms i dont know..... 6 months in and 6 months left is money to waste if you arent going unless you intend to get the moneys worth .... xThe loans will pay themselves the credit cards need a kicking :money: DFW Long haulers supporter 132!!:T0
