Run out of jars!! Ooops!

Hope someone can help. I've just made a big pan of apple chutney and a big pan of apple marmalade and have only just realised I've not got enough jars:o ! I've gone through my cupboards decanting what I can but haven't managed to find enough. How long do you think these would keep in plastic tubs in the fridge before they went off? Do you think I could freeze either?
Thanks

Lakeland sell jars if you have one nearby? Not very OS going out and buying them but it might save you wasting your goodies I guess.

  • Thanks for the suggestions. Have spoken to my mum this morning who thinks she has got some jars in the garage so will go and raid those but have so many apples I think I'll have to use tubs atc too.

My recipe for apple marmalade is a bit hit and miss but basically:

3lb apples (peeled, cored and thinly sliced)
    1 orange(Thinly sliced)
5 cupsof sugar(I wasn't sure how much this was! So just added sugar till it wouldn't disolve anymore)
    2 tbs lemon juice
    1 1/2 cups water

Stew down apples and orange in lemon juice and water. Add sugar and stir till it dissolves. Boil gently till it starts to set.

Think in my next lot I might add some cinnamon to make it slightly different.
    Thanks again

  • Hi Mary
Just used cooking apples straight off the tree in the garden and normal granulated sugar. Didn't think about using jam making sugar! I don't tend to stick to the measurements exactly. Hope it works OK
