We cancelled our iva payments, our accountant is going to deal with them as he is the tax and vat office, they have given us a couple of months to pay but we wont be able to, its ironic really, last april the tax office kept back a repayment to us of £18.000 incase we owed them any off our next years tax bill,in addition to that they are now in possession of a further £58.000 ,thats the argument we have with them, there is enough to pay all our tax/vat with a lot left over to go in the iva , the systems mad.

That sounds par for the course for HMRC, lynnellen. The Left hand simply does not know (or wish to know) what the right hand is doing.

I have, today, received some papers, that I requested on a SAR, from HMRC regarding my VAT returns - these documents show that HMRC were actually trying (unsuccesfully as it turns out) to serve a second Statutory Demand on me and had booked a 'hearing date' for my bankruptcy for some three weeks after the hearing that HMRC had also booked for my Tax (Inland Revenue) bankruptcy.
When I questioned them about this, the guy from HMRC told me that they were still two totally separate and autonomous departments. He was unable, or unwilling, to answer my question as to how much the 'merger' of the two departments had cost the UK Tax Payer, given that it was, obviously, only a paper exercise and meant nothing.
HMRC are, indeed, a 'law unto themselves' when it suits them.
It actually took me several months before they would confirm that they 'could not bankrupt me twice'.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.
