New BT Line

Options
Hello money savers,

Due to financial circumstances my mobile phone has outgoing calls restricted, and I've recently signed up to BT after Talk Talk messed me around and disconnected my phone line and internet without warning.

I've got my first monthly bill from BT for £96, bit steep compared to my normal bill when I was on Talk Talk, but I used to use my mobile to make all my calls.

I know this may seem like an oversight on my part, but when I signed up for BT over the phone from a payphone, I just wanted to get a phone line ASAP. After reading my bill, and looking on the BT website I've found I can get a discount of 25% on mobile phone calls and free daytime calls for a little extra money £15 as apposed to £10.50. I've contacted BT and said that I would like to pay the extra for the discounts, but they've said the bill's already generated and they can't discount it or reduce my next bill to reflect the discounts.

Have I got a leg to stand on, I've worked out that my bill would be £65.45 with the reductions, is it worth trying to pursue anything here.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to the MSE forums Asphyxiate.

I'd say you are too late now and will have to wear that first bill.

However, what on earth are you doing using BT for calling mobiles (there are numerous less-expensive ways on the MSE UK CallChecker)?

Personally, I restrict my calls to mobiles to less than 20 minutes each and so pay 20p per call on Primus's Penny Mobile 2 CPS.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Hello Heinz,

I've signed up to a 12 month contract with BT earlier today with the Unlimited UK* Anytime talk plan, this is a temporary affair until I clear my outstanding balance with Orange, however I feel rather silly for not looking up this information earlier, (I agreed last month to a 12 month Unlimited UK* Evening & Weekend calls contract over the phone whilst my internet was down, they've told me today that I've got another 12 month contract starting from today).

    Knowledge saves money.

OK, so you now can't CPS your calls until you contract with BT ends - but you could still reduce the cost of your calls to mobiles using the MSE Callcheckers.
