Epson Stylus photo 810 won't print from black cartridge - help!

Hi. Aplogies if this is not appropriate but in desperation I have posted this query here because I did not know what else to do. I have an Epson stylus photo 810 printer and have just changed the black ink cartridge and now it will not print out anything black. Have cleaned the printheads and done everything I can but still cannot get it to print from the black cartridge. Colour prints fine. Can anyone advice please? Compatible cartridges are being used which I have not had problems with before.
