Are there any genuine 1 day listings?

OK, I maybe a bit harsh saying all 1 day listings are scams, but why would anyone wanting to get the best price for their goods limit the exposure of their item to only 1 day?
A good example is...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Canon-EOS-1Ds-Mark-II-16-7MP-Digital-SLR-Camera_W0QQitemZ7561158766QQcategoryZ20333QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
and all the others cameras they are selling.
Now there are enough other signals in their listings that SCREAM scammer such as copied photos & descriptions, Western Union payment, reams of cut & pasted specifications and that there has been no activity on the account for ages.
It looks like some fake-bidders are trying to wreck some of the auctions, but I still find it hard to believe that people are being taken in by this type of scam!

Of course 1 day listings are useful and not all are scams.
If you sell commodity items memory/batteries etc or items that are flavour of the month why would you put them on for any more than 1 day? Most folk will not look beyond the 1st page of a listing. On a 1 day listing (as opposed to a standard 7 day listing) you get 7 times the turnover.
The most money I have made on EBay (percentage wise) was on 3 months of 1 day listings......ah those were the days!!0 -
OK, I agree with you about commodity items for a few quid... maybe I should have put 'high value' in the thread title.
Would you put a £2000 camera/laptop/plasma TV on a 1 day listing though?Better to die on your feet than to live on your knees!0 -
yes i would and I have 1 day auctions works much better
people dont even look at it untill there is less that 20 hours left! so yeah 1 day Rules!
I would take 1 hour if I could!0 -
If you're a reseller with many to sell, then yes, a 1-day auction would be appropriate, maximising turnover. And I would expect it might encourage people to do more spur-of-the-moment bidding when they see they only have hours left.0

well, it's been removed so it was dodgy!!0

I only ever used 1 day listings. I rarely got any bids until the last 24hrs of the auction so I didn't see the point in waiting.0

Thats why I always put in a good BIN on longer auctions. Try and hook the ones who have just been outbid on a closing auction0

Yup tonyivb...you certainly were harsh to even suggest all 1 day auctions are scams....ditto your partial retraction re items of a " lower value".
I regularly sell on one day auctions for the reasons stated above by others...
There are plenty of warning signs for potential scammers.......having a one day auction would be by far the least of them.
