Advice Needed on Netgear PCMCIA Mobile Adapter

I have been using a Netgear Wireless ADSL Router DG834G with Netgear MA111 Adaptor with Windows XP.

A friend of mine suggested that I should get a Adapter Card, as this would help with the signal (I have my office converted in part of the garage). Also, my other half likes to use the lap top actually on her lap and forgets that the MA111 adapter is in! Anyway, on a whim I bought a PCMCIA Adapter Card off ebay without doing any real research (silly me!), now I am not sure whether this is;-

a) of any benefit or b) what to do with it!

So, any advice would be welcome and time saving!

Cheers
Rockee

    Hi,
Whats the model of the PCMCIA card? If your USB adaptor was fine, then not sure if it is worth replacing it. If you purchased this as your friend said it will help with the signal, then are you having connection problems?

Post the model of the pcmcia device and I will take a look at it.

(personally I prefer pcmcia to usb devices)

The model is Netgear 10/100 Mbps 16-bit Model FA411. The signal is fine downstairs in the house but in our office which is approx 25 foot away, we can just get a signal.

The FA411 is not a wireless card, so you would need to physically connect it to the router with an utp/rj45 cable.

A couple of suggestions to try and increase the signal with your MA111:
Try a different channel on your DG834G router, normally 6 and above are found to be the best for better signals.
Also, not sure if Netgear routers have the the option to increase the radio power (I've had many w/less routers, but never fancied netgear), if so, you could try increasing this little by little until you get the signal strength you are happy with.

Not sure of your level of expertise in routers, but you would do this by connecting to the router...let me know if you need any further help, glad to help.....

Thanks for that. I did see on the Gadget Show this week, that you can increase the signal strength by buying a larger aeriel. So, I might try that. The signal at the moment works but occasionally decides to be a bit unpredictable. I think I will put the FA411 back on eBay!
