First ever Car boot sale

Hi,

I;m not sure if this is the right place to post this, but i am doing my first ever car boot sale tomorrow. I've nevere even been to one before, let alone sold anything at one!

i have had a huge clear out, and have lots of stuff to take. i have asked my friends about anything i need to know, one says price everything up, the other said not to... what's the best idea??

Hi, we are suposed to be doing a car boot sale on monday (weather permiting!)

When I used to do them with my mum we used to price things up so that people had an idea what we wanted although we were generally prepared to accept less if people wanted to haggle but I know some people just make their prices up when people ask. I think it depends on whether you just want to get rid of everything and aren't bothered what people pay for it or whether you feel some stuff is worth a certain amount (and wouldn't want it to go for less)

This will be the first car boot sale I've done for years though so I would also be interested in what other people think is best! xx

I don't tend to mark things up unless I have a box full of stuff all the same price so just stick a big label on the front. People generally are happy to ask. Plus if you have a certain price on something it may put people off, instead of haggling.
Just remember to be firm....people will always try and knock you down on price but if you want a certain amount for something then stick your ground. I told someone last sunday that something was £3 and she asked if I'd take 50p for it!!!Durrr......no!!
Also, take lots of carrier bags as people are always asking for them!

1. Take a LOT of change. Loads of people won't have the right money. Keep all the money safe. When I did it with my mum, we each used a bum bag, and every so often put notes inside a purse in the car (which we locked).

2. You'll get surrounded when you arrive by professional traders if they see decent stuff in your windows. They'll try and get stuff at ridiculously low prices. Shout loudly and politely that you need some time to set up, and can they please come back in 20 mins or something.

3. We did price stuff. You'll be dealing with lots of people and it's easy to get confused and let stuff go too cheap. If, after a little while, nothing's shifting, change all the prices. When you have a breather, walk round and see how much other people are charging.

4. Get there early so you're not stuck down the very far end that some visitors don't get to (if it's a really big boot sale).

5. If you have them, take wallpapering tables or folding garden tables to put all your stuff on!
