automatic updates argggh help

Anyone know why my computer is trying install office XP service pack 3? And also why it cant install it? everytime i click ok the bubble keeps coming back telling me to install it, aaaarrrggghhhhhh

First make sure your Office apps _are_ running SP3 by going into Help - About.

If they are try this. First stop the Automatic Updates service: Start - Control Panel - Admin Tools - Services. Right-click Automatic Updates and click Stop.

Next, using Windows Explorer, look in the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and delete any files you find there.
If you find files in there, delete them. That folder is where the Update files are stored.

Go back to the Services window and restart Automatic Updates.

Tell us if the bubble has burst or not...

It was because it wanted me to put in the microsoft suite disk :rolleyes:

There are different download options depending whether you have a CD or not. Without takes quite a bit longer. I did XP3 and subsequent Updates and they took nearly 5 hours on dial-up.
