Main Driver on insurance but not the owner
A.K.
Hi guys,
I will be using my Dad's car and in the insurance policy, I intend to be the main driver. However, as on the V5 the registered keeper is my Dad, can I not be insured as a main driver - or can you do this?
I would change the name of the keeper on the V5, but if I am right, this is classified as a new owner and is just adding to the number of owners (which can be off-putting when we come to sell it)
Does anyone have any ideas on this?
Many thanks,
A.K.

You do not have to be the registered keeper to be the named main driver on the registered keeper's insurance policy.0

^^ as above, the policy holder is the owner. Some companies may not insist on this but many do as you dont have an insurable interest in the vehicle (or something like that!!)
You can be the main driver on your dads policy though, BUT this may not build up No Claims Bonus, certaintly not one you can definately take away from that insurer anyway.
I think i read somewhere that if you explain to the DVLA that its a family transfer then they can avoid incrementing the owners count? At the end of the day, if the names are the same it makes diddly squat difference anyway to the value..0
