Urgent help with MOT question
My car is in for it's MOT today & I've just had a phone call with a couple of small bits that need doing. However, the big problem is that whilst in for the MOT the fac belt snapped, wrapped itself around another bit of the engine that now needs replacing!
My question is - as I've never had a problem with the car, am I liable to pay for this repair that happened whilst it was being tested, or is it the responsibility of the garage?
Any help gratefully received

Unless you can prove some sort of negligence by the garage, which is highly unlikely, then the responsibility is all yours. What goes around - comes around0

Thanks Zappahey - thought that would be the answer, but that it was worth asking the question!Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

Think you mean fan belt.
If this is the case they are really cheap to replace and should take no longer then an hour0 -
Hopefully it did not wrap itself into the timing belt, as that would get very expensive. There should be a cover on the timing belt for this reason.
The damage is your responsibility not the MOT place. You could have a claim against the person who fitted the broken belt - when new, if it was fitted recently or it failed for a manufacturing fault.0 -
Anyone else reckon that this is yet another car that doesn't see regular servicing?0

One of the bosses was finishing off an MOT this morning, doing the emissions test - and bang!
Luckily it was the alternator belt that went and not the cam belt!
We really didn't want that on a Friday!!
As Conor said, it is the customers responsibility to ensure their vehicle is serviced regularly.Genie

Great this blame culture innit?? when something goes wrong its the mechanics fault cos he was sat in it at the time

I had one sayin "ever since you fitted my brake pads, the engine has started to rattle" :rotfl:Sorry
