How on earth anyone could reccommend A&L to you I don't know. They are well known for their appalling customer service, appalling online system, clearance system taking 1 day longer than other banks and to make things worse are about to (if approved) become part of Santander who own Abbey, whom easily rate as the worst bank in the UK.
Steer well clear of A&L !!!
And as YB said don't close the Halifax, it will work in your favour for credit applications even if its used occasionally only. It's a BIG plus factor.0
