RyanAir Incorrect Title

Good evening,

I have just booked a flight via RyanAir, and it would seem I have mistakenly selected "Doctor" as my friend's title instead of "Mr" after the session timed out and I had to re-enter the information. The booking is for a return flight from Bristol, UK to Marrakech, Morocco with an online check-in.

I have read a few forums suggesting that the vast majority of the time, this is not a problem as:

1) Your title is not displayed on your passport
2) Airport staff are unlikely to notice
3) Airport staff are unlikely to refuse boarding on the basis of a minor "clerical error"

However, before I decide on what to do, I would be interested in receiving some feedback on this forum, specifically:

1) Could this cause any issues with Advance Passenger Information (API)? This is required for flights to Morocco.

2) Is there a basis for staff to determine that the title is incorrect? If so, what kind of problems could we face?

3) For peace of mind (more so, for my friend), if I were to get this changed, what would be the best way of approaching the problem? Should I ask for a name change (expensive)? Should I inform RyanAir that it was an input error, and there is no change actually being made to the passenger name? What should I expect to pay?

4) How should I contact them? £1.00/m lines are horrid. Can I do so by email, in writing, etc? Would this be beneficial?

5) Could this in any way have effect on a travel insurance policy (NOT from RyanAir)?

Many thanks in advance for any comments. Please state your source where applicable.

Relax. I always use the title "Doctor" when I travel, and no-one has ever checked (nor taken it at all seriously). As it happens I do have the right to the title, but would never travel with a degree certificate!

    Basically, a total non-issue.
  • Yep a total non issue, I have been at times panicking to get a cheap flight and I have put kids as adults and vice versa, mr as mrs etc, so long as the names are ok no problem.

I have even before put in the same name twice, it cost 7€ to make that mistake but if your booking a flight and you want to sell it 7€ is better than 70€

People often use Dr., Rev., etc in order to get upgraded to First Class. It tends to work, so I wouldn't worry too much ;)
  • Thank you all for your responses.

I decided to give RyanAir a call; the lady stated that it wasn't a problem, but she would amend the records anyway (free).

With regards to the premium rate number: Not as painful as I expected, with a call duration of 2 minutes 6 seconds and answered immediately. That's not to say I agree with it being their only visible support channel, just that it was acceptable in this instance.

    Cheers
