Hi folks....
Just had a huge amount of hassle installing the latest SP1 on my Vista 64bit Home Premium Desktop. The windows update kept on stalling and stayed on either 0% installed or crashed and restarted.
The issue was easily resolved by downloading the standalone 700odd MB installer from microsoft, DISCONNECTING MY ETHERNET CABLE and then and only the turning off the NORTON 360V2 protection (firewall and AV). Doing this the SP1 installed easily but still takes a while so be prepared for long periods (apprx 15mins) when nothing seems to progress.
I was updating the 64bit version HomePremium. 8500GT 4GB RAM 500GBHDD E2160.
Hope this helps someone as I have had so much help and advice off this forum I thought I would post the quick but probably already disseminated advice above!!

XP OS alone is about 700MB so it's not surprising this takes a while to configure itself and then install.Always looking for a bargain and to help0
