Evening all.
My husband is working away from home in Rugby at the moment. As he works a lot of overtime he hasn't seen much of our boys during the hols. I am planning on travelling there to surprise him for a couple of days so he can see the kids. Anyway as he will be at work during the day I need things to do with the kids that are as cheap as possible and easy to get to as I won't have the car with me. I know he is staying on Oxford Street in Rugby which I believe to be fairly central.
Any advice appreciated.

Honestly? There's nothing central to do with kids in Rugby that's easy to get to besides the park.
Might be worth getting on a train to coventry to go to the free transport museum which will keep little people amused for a couple of hours, and there's also 2 soft play places in central coventry called funky monkeys/Purple Planet.
Have you tried contacting the tourist office?

Thanks so much for replying I had given up hope!! i've looked on tourism website but although I have found things I don't really know where they are in relation to where we are staying. Play centres may be the best idea. Have you any idea roughly how long it takes on the train to Coventry and any idea of price? Sorry to be asking so many questions I just really want to have a good idea of what I will be doing and how much it will cost.
Thanks again

Train to cov takes about 15 mins, shouldn't be more than £5 return.
Soft play entry is around £4 a child (school holiday prices) city centre is a 10 min walk from station.
My 4 yr old and 2 yr old easily occupy 2 hours in the transport museum, which is clearly signposted once you hit the city centre.
If you're happy travelling to other towns by train, Birmingham will be around 30mins on the train, pretty cheap again and you have think tank, sealife centre and a whole host of other things for little people to do.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Hi
Just to let you know that there is a Sports Centre within walking distance of Oxford Street in Rugby. It has swimming pools and a soft play area. Details here: http://www.dcleisurecentres.co.uk/Centres/Warwickshire/Ken+Marriott+Leisure+Centre/index.html
Again within walking distance - a nice activity for the kids is the Wobbly Plate - http://www.thewobblyplate.co.uk/ .
Not free - but you can limit the amount to spend.
As you would be so close to the Railway Station, I also think that Birmingham or Coventry are good options.
Alternatively - if you can have transport (or use buses - Rugby to Leamington then Leamington to Warwick OR trains Rug - Cov/Cov - Leam / Leam - Warwick), you could print out the free vouchers for Warwick Castle (see the Days Out thread) - you can use the vouchers for the children too - so a great cheap day out.
Other options if you can have transport are Coombe Abbey, Ryton Pools and Draycote Water.
Hope this helps0 -
Thanks to both of you for your brill suggestions. It has certainly given me plenty to plan for. I think the Transport Museum and Sports Centre play centre will be certainties.
Thanks again much appreciated
