ipod touch - tell me about it please?

Options
do you need to have a contract to access the internet with it?

Is it worth the money - or should I just go for the classic?

    Hello,

I've had the Ipod Mini (4gb) and see the Classic/Video/Photo work, and for the price, I would got for the touch anyday.

Its not on a contract its just an MP3/MP4 player with Wifi built in.

You can have as much, or as little software installed onto it with its new facility of the Apps Store, which means where ever you are, if you have internet connection, you can download new games, applications and software legally to your ipod (its so legal you even get a receipt for the free items you buy)

I use my Ipod touch mostly for:

    1. Music
    2. Browsing the internet - Its got full internet, all sites work on it EVEN THIS ONE! and you have the facility of making pages bigger and smaller the same way you would a photo which is great! it works really well and if you turn it landscape, because of the technology, the screen will auto turn with you, and if you turn back landscape, it will automatticaly swivel round, and its very smooth at doing so!
    3. Picture viewing - so easy to add all your fave pics onto your Ipod touch
    4. The applications - so many free games that work with the accelorator builit in, like the wii it has a tilt sensor which is brilliant and works without any stalls etc!

For the price of £180 (or £150 in Littlewoods Clearance) for the 8gb its well worth it.

I have the 8gb version and I love it! updated it twice (if your buying from new, you should already have the new updates on so you wont have to pay! but muggins here has paid £17!!!)

the screen is scratch proof which is an added bonus, But! I do recommend that you buy a plastic/rubby case from ebay because the back will get scratched with its mirror like finish!

The machine is great, a must have toy! its the same as the iphone but without the telecommunication facilities but you can just buy a basic phone to do that!

Internet is free - using Wifi i.e Wireless internet in your home, office or "the cloud" i.e. Mc Donnalds lol

Starbucks and Apple have teamed up together and offer free wifi in selected areas also!

One touch connection to the net and trust me! no monthly fees!

Classic is like buying a tape player for your car, old technology, but if you only want an mp3/mp4 player then go for it.

Remeber Ipod Touch has a bigger screen and is SO GOOD!!! you can even watch BBC Iplayer on it too! because its all been converted to Iphone/Itouch

In my opinion I think the ipod touch is bloody awesome and if you want a good size, then the 8gb version is plenty! if you want a lot of movies then look into the bigger sizes!

Hope this has helped! any more questions im happy to help! i'll answer everything I can!

    Cheers

    Alex
  • I second the opinion to buy a protective case. You'll regret it if you don't :)
  • Hi I have bought the new Ipod Touch and although I will probably mostly you it for music the internet facility will probably come in handy now and again.

The problem though is I am not very techi and when I look at the wireless internet facility it asks for a password? Where do I get the password from?

    Thanks
    KM
  • The password it is asking for is proberly a WEP key for the wireless network. If it is YOUR wifi network then the password will be either on the router (default) or you should know it if you have changed it. If it is someone elses network then they will have the password.

I'm not slamming the iPod Touch as I'm planning to get one myself, but that statement is not quite true - indeed Apple got ticked off by the Advertising Standards Authority for making much the same staement.
Anything that is heavy on Adobe Flash won't display properly on a Touch (or, for that matter, an iPhone)
Apart from that, it's a great WiFi broswer device and I can't wait to get mine!
    Au Res.,

Depends if they make it a public protected or non-protected wifi hotspot.

Those that allow access, but protected, usually publish the password in their stores.

Full details of the iPod Touch here. Good full review in this fortnight's MacUser in newsagents.

Places like McDonalds tend to have unsecured wireless networks, which means that you won't need a password. The Wi-Fi on an iPhone works the same as Wi-Fi on a PC or laptop. In other words, it's all down to the network itself. You will be able to use an unsecured network without a password (most public networks, such as those in McDonald's, Starbucks, and other coffee shops and such, are unsecured). If you are going to use a secured network, you will need the WEP/WPA key to access it, just like with anything else.
