I have noticed the quick trains from Orpington to London - you say you dont like it though, can I ask why?

Re-reading my post, I was rather blunt and didn't mean to be :o

I just find the High Street somewhat depressing - which is silly, as few of us live on the High Street. It's too "suburbia" - but then I wouldn't live in Sevenoaks or Tunbridge Wells either!

Personally, I'd rather be out in the sticks but then very many people would go bonkers living here :rotfl:

On balance, probably nothing at all wrong with Orpington, just not to my personal taste :D
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)

Given the choice, I'd live in the sticks or in the centre of town, never in outer suburbia.

  • Woolwich Arsenal, by the way, is one of the greatest Emporer's new clothes deals going. The apartments - particularly the ones in the converted old buildings - are genuinely lovely, but as soon as you step outside the gates you have to deal with Woolwich.

I agree - lovely building, great place to live in, shame about the area!

  • And the price you pay somewhere like Blackheath is more or less the same as what you'd pay to live in Putney or Richmond, and to me there's no comparison. Yes, SE London is cheap but in most of these places you get what you pay for ... Definitely regret moving out here and I'm so glad I'm leaving!

I grew up in Blackheath / Greenwich, and I think Blackheath's lovely. The views, fresh air, and combination of the heath and the park are fantastic. Transport into town's good as well.

Fine when you're there but if you ever want to leave to go anywhere other than Kent or the continent it's a disaster! And the same goes for your visitors - don't expect many family visits - might be a good thing...;)

Well, as all my close family lives in Kent or SE London, that's not a problem (-:

Seriously, though, transport into London is great from Blackheath, loads of fast trains to a variety of stations.

    I love suburbia:o
But then again it is a bit different up here - I'm less than 3 miles to the city centre (6 mins by train), and about 2 miles to Lickey Hills and the Worcester country side.
