Need euro currency account - Questions?

We need a euro currency account, doesn't have to be UK bank but has to have good net access. Often we are sending and getting funds from countries within the euro zone. I know most euro accounts in other countries allow transfers to other european countries for a small charge, under a euro when someone sent funds from Ireland to Spain. What do moneysavers suggest? We don't mind a small monthly charge but being able to transfer funds from our euro account to another euro account in another EU country for a small cost is very important.

Thanks

  • Who do you bank with now?
Have you asked them what they can offer or go to their website to have a look?

Well HSBC are the 'Worlds Local Bank' and have branches all around the world (but not Norway!), so I am sure they would offer you an account, you go into branch or look on their website

    Citibank!!

Sent forms on Wednesday just waiting to hear now! If its as good as they suggest it seems that almost everyone who moves money around the eurozone, even to pay for a holiday will find this of benefit.

I called CitiBank today. Lady was helpful and said that money can be moved to certain euro currency banks within the eurozone for no fee, I asked her examples of what banks in a few countries I deal with and she listed all the banks that were free, to be honest it was all the ones I have ever heard off!
  • I have a Citibank euro current account. The free transfers you mention are SEPA transfers, and can be thought of as a europe-wide version of the UK BACS transfers. I just transferred money to a company in Belgium to pay off a bill this way and seems to have worked fine, fingers-crossed. The fee-free transfers are certainly a plus to this account.
You can't make a SEPA transfer directly yourself using the online banking, but you can use the online banking or telephone to send a request to make the transfer. I wouldn't say Citibank service is the greatest, but it's useable.
